This book discusses the basic concepts of biostatistics. It includes an introduction to biostatistics, types of data and variables, data testing, hypothesis testing, inferential statistics, the application of biostatistics in health research, and ethics in the use of biostatistics.

In its meaning, statistics itself is knowledge that is related to technical methods or how to collect data, process data, analyze data, present data in the form of curves or diagrams, drawing conclusions, interpreting data and test the hypothesis based on the results data processing – the data we obtain can be presented in the form of diagrams (bar charts, line charts, pie charts) and in table form. Whatever form of data we present, it will definitely provide an understanding the same for the readers.

The origin of the word biostatistics is “bio” and “statistics” so that it can be interpreted as a field of science that studies the processing of biological (life) data (Simbolon et al., 2023). Biostatistics is also an application of statistical methods thatused to explain data related to health problems to make decisions and create policies based on actual facts in the field (evidence based)(Ahmad.A.,2021) According to Sutha (2019), biostatistics is also a branch of science that plays a crucial role in supporting research and decision making. Sulung & Yasril (2019) state that biostatistics is a statistical method applied to the health sciences to help understand population characteristics and the relationship between the influence of variables on the population. Biostatistics also hasthe goal of designing experiments, collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to solve health problems and make evidence-based decisions.
