This book discusses Agrarian Law as an Instrument for Sustainable Development. It covers the concept of sustainable development, the principles of national agrarian law, and the role of the state in protecting community rights.
Sustainable development emerged as an urgent response to the worsening global environmental crises, including global warming , climate change, ozone layer depletion, air, water, and soil pollution, and biodiversity decline. Rapid industrial development often ignores ecological impacts, resulting in serious environmental damage and social inequality. These challenges are exacerbated by the world’s ever increasing population, which increases pressure on ecosystems and natural resources (Fauzia, 2024).
The conventional development paradigm that focuses exclusively on accelerating economic growth has resulted in excessive exploitation of natural resources (over-exploitation). Model resource-driven economy causing environmental degradation, widening social disparities, and intergenerational injustice. Extraction of natural resources without sustainable management threatens the capacity of future generations to meet their own needs.
